CHILD FIND

Research shows that the earlier intervention is provided, the better the outcome. Children with delays in communication, behavior, cognition, and motor skills benefit from services designed to give them strategies for overcoming these challenges. Early intervention replaces fear with action and empowers families and caregivers with the knowledge to help their children. The Birth to 5 Center exists to provide these services for the Enumclaw and Black Diamond communities. Child Find screening, testing, and services are always free.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF CHILD DEVELOPMENT SCREENING?

A Child Find screening identifies children, ages 3-5,  who may need further assessment in one or more developmental areas.  Please email Mary (Treasa) Brock or call 360.802.7860 to make a Child Find appointment.

Child Find is located at our Birth to Five Center at JJ Smith School:
1640 Fell Street
Enumclaw, WA 98022

CHILD DEVELOPMENT SCREENING PROCEDURES

Our team will schedule a Child Find Screening appointment with you. Appointments are on Fridays (one per month). Caregivers will bring their child into the Birth to Five Center at the scheduled time, and the child will be screened in communication, cognition, fine motor skills, and gross motor skills. There will be a questionnaire for the caregiver to fill in additional information about the child and his/her experiences. The questionnaire will help give input for behavior, social-emotional, and adaptive needs. Our team consists of our Psychologist, a Speech and Language Pathologist, our Occupational Therapist, our Physical Therapist, and an Educational Consultant. Families will find out if further evaluation is recommended the week after the screening.

Parents of children birth to five years of age who have questions or concerns about their child's development are encouraged to contact the Birth to Five Center at 360.802.7860.

If you note that your child cannot perform some of these at the applicable age, it could indicate that your child is a candidate for screening.
